In fact, employment lawyers do very little labor law because unions have their own lawyers to fight their battles. Employment law covers the legislation protecting the rights of non-union employees. Labor law, meanwhile, deals with the regulation of the workplace and working conditions for union members. Curiously, the two terms are used interchangeably not only by clients but also by the State Bar. Employment law should, therefore, be given distinction from labor law.
