ITIL is one of the most sought-after certifications among IT professionals–nearly one in five is ITIL-certified.1
ITIL is a way to provide stability as IT resources become more scarce and the work environment becomes increasingly chaotic. ITIL’s global best practices and proven effectiveness allow for business growth and transformation even in the most chaotic of times. ITIL is designed for calm in storms.
It is hard to overlook the benefits of ITIL skills. ITIL-certified professionals make good salaries. The average IT professional with an ITIL Foundation credential in the United States earns over $120,000.2
The impact ITIL professionals have in the workplace is one reason for the high salaries. Their skills can be immediately translated into success once they have been certified and trained.
ITIL students apply what is learned in the classroom
Global Knowledge ITIL students responded to a survey that found that 99% of them used the skills they gained within eight weeks. 70% of those who took part in the survey applied what they learned within the first week.
However, the ways they used ITIL skills varied from one respondent to another.
“I apply what’ve learned almost every day in meetings. Generally, to reign in conversations of new setups by reminding all of the need for Strategy->Design->Transition->Operation instead of skipping Strategy.” – Brad J.
“I am currently managing a service transition from an older platform to new and strategizing for a new integration product. Clara X.
“Transitioning our old ServiceNow assignment groups to a new function-based set that is adaptable to any future organizational changes.” – Steve W.
“For the most parts, we have used what we learned to add some formatting efficiencies to many of our project plans. We have also been able to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the projects we create, even when they overlap.” – Roy P.
Our ITIL students are more confident and can speak more clearly about business processes. After training, they seem to have a better understanding of their job.
“I work in Operations. I used my knowledge and skills to simplify my role.” – Anthony M.
ITIL students are more successful in achieving team and organizational success because they can immediately apply their skills. 98% of respondents said that training had a positive effect on their performance. Our survey also revealed some interesting data:
ITIL students claimed that training saved them 3.4 hours per workweek
90% of the candidates passed the certification exam the first time they tried.
86% noticed an immediate improvement in their work quality
57% of respondents said they are now more efficient in their job performance
79% are more involved in their work
Between 13 and 14% of students received promotions or raises within 60 days of their course.
ITIL is constantly being updated
ITIL 4, the newest ITIL version, was launched in February. This update addresses the evolving best practices associated with modern IT, such as DevOps and Agile IT development.
ITIL 4 certification, just like v3, proves your ability to align IT and business goals. ITIL v3 remains relevant, and all previous-earned certifications are valid. Version 4 is the best version to learn ITIL. Global Knowledge offers an ITIL 4 Foundation Bridge course for those who are already certified and want to transition to ITIL 4.
