According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics there were nearly 6 million jobs available in America – which is close to the all time high. This may seem like a good thing on the surface. It’s easy for people to believe that the economy is growing because employers are hiring. However, it is important to note that there are many open jobs. This means that there aren’t enough qualified people in the country for high-skilled jobs, many of them IT jobs. With unemployment hovering at 5%, it’s obvious that there are plenty of people available to fill low-skilled positions. These jobs wouldn’t exist if they didn’t require experienced and highly educated people. It would be impossible.
This is especially evident in the tech sector, where many companies seek out foreign talent through the H-1B program. The program grants 85,000 non-resident work visas each year, most of which are for tech-related fields. It has received over 200 million applications in the past few years. Although there have been cases where companies tried to use this visa, it is clear that the country lacks qualified talent. People who are motivated, passionate and always looking for new skills will be able reap the rewards of being the most valuable employees in an organization. It can be difficult to rise to the top of your industry if you are being taught by professors who have never been there. Realistically, IT jobs in the real world are very different from what IT training schools and entry level certification institutes teach. Even after completing training programs and spending a lot, students are often thrown into the industry without a plan for their future. Many people spend years in boring, unfulfilling jobs that do not provide any real career opportunities.
